How To Kill Moss Between Your Brick Pavers
It just seems to creep up one day, invading the spaces between your beautiful brick paver patio, walkway, swimming pool deck or driveway . . .
While some people find that moss gives their home a stately, timely appearance, most of our clients ask us "how do I get rid of this pesky, slippery moss"?
First it is important to understand what moss is and what conditions it prefers to thrive in:
Moss has no leaves or flowers! It spreads by growing through spores. It thrives upon moisture or dampness and shade.
The best long-term solution is to adjust the factors that are enabling the moss to thrive. Perhaps pruning overhanging trees or shrubs will allow more sunlight in the area to keep it dry. Also, if applicable, check your sprinkler heads - they may need an adjustment to prevent them from spraying water on your pavers.
To remove the moss that you currently have growing is fairly simple. A solution of 10-20% bleach to water usually knocks down the moss spores - DO BE SURE TO TEST A SMALL AREA FIRST IN CASE THE BLEACH DISCOLORS YOUR PAVERS!
If you have a small area you can use a stiff brush to remove the moss. If you have a large area, a pressure washer would be ideal. CAUTION! If used improperly a pressure washer can cause damage so experiment on a small area or hire a professional to do the job.
Some herbicides will kill moss, however, this is not a safe option for caring for our environment - also, never put herbicide in your pressure washer!
Call our office today and we will be happy to provide you with a FREE quote to professionally clean your pavers - you may also want to consider sealing your pavers to help discourage future growth of moss.
